Committee will meet to discuss green technologies curriculum (cont.):

By offering these classes, Winnisquam will be preparing students for college degree programs in the energy technologies field, at places such as the Lakes Region Community College, University of New Hampshire, Boston Architectural College and many others. This program will also prepare students for the growing job market of renewable energy. It is estimated that these jobs are growing at a rate that is 2-3 times that of the general job market.
Developing a green technologies curriculum was one of the goals set forth in the current Strategic Plan for the Winnisquam Regional School District. The district will have a unique opportunity with a biomass plant on campus, to teach this technology, and plans to apply for grants in order to have demonstration projects to teach solar hot water systems, wind power systems, and photovoltaic power generation.

In addition, the committee will explore other options for using this space, such as homeowner workshops, Adult Education classes, and an after school sustainability/energy club for students. And while some of these ideas may not be feasible, or may take time to develop, the intention is to make the best use of this new space to benefit both the students and the community.
